8 Ways Employees Can Earn in this Covid-19 Lockdown.

April 2020, is the first month I’ll stay without receiving salary earning from my boss. It’s terrible, but I’ve learnt the lesson the hard way.

I’m glad I’m making changes too. And you can. You can earn even in the cave-19 lockdown.

If you’re crying in this lockdown it is not your employer’s fault. It is your fault to a larger extent though.

While I know it’s not easy to survive, I believe that covered-19 has shown us how our world is and has changed completely.

For me, I was able to do my first online training last week. And guess what? That cash has carried me for a while. Although, I have a commitment to make my students get the real deal too.

For you as an employee, what are you waiting for?

NB: This is no time to say you’re not the online person. You don’t like online and all those self-denials we use to run away from personal responsibility.

Help ya sef with any of these:

  • Content Creation

You can earn by typing content jobs on Google. You will see a lot. If you’re fortunate, a company can hire you to write on their blog in this season. But you’ll have to know something about that niche.

So, I advice you look for writing jobs in the niche you have knowledge.

  • Editing jobs

You can also earn by editing works. Not necessarily creating from scratch. How do I get this?

Go online and type editing jobs and your journey begins.

  • Social Media Marketing

This is one reason you need a good online presence. They’ll need testimonial most times and I’d you can’t give any… Buy just try. You never can tell.

Do this: search for social media marketing jobs on google.

  • Coding

Is this too high?

Well, for some persons.

I started learning coding two or three weeks ago. You might not like this. But coding is the future of work. If you don’t know that by now then you’re late.

And the earnings in coding can be higher. Yes. If you feel you can’t do this then start a class on it.

  • Translating

Can you speak a different language like French or Spanish or Portuguese? There are jobs waiting for you. You can even use sites that translate to translate for you.

How again? (I can hear your heart asking that)… Google it. And you’ll see results.

  • Graphic Design

From Adobe apps – both on PCs and mobile, you can go for a graphic design job you an earn some dollars.

Or maybe you’ll need to understand these apps first and then apply.

Can you see how we limit ourselves sometimes?

I use Adobe Spark Post for my designs and it’s a mobile app. You too can.

  • Website building

Just like coding, there’s good earning in website building. It is a part of coding.

In about one week, several persons have asked me about building a website. That means it is a good source of earning.

  • User Testing

There are apps that several companies make and they want certain persons to test run them before they are launched. You can do that and get some earnings.

  • Teach online

This will turn you around. In fact, I recommend you do this. It will help you after the covid-19 lockdown.

Lots of organizations are using this and will continue. Perhaps, you’ll teach your colleagues in the office when you resume.

Don’t just sit and watch, especially, if your employer is not having any plans for you.

Do something with your life and your time. More updates coming in for you.

FRIDAY BOOK REVIEW WITH CHUKS | Only the Paranoid Survive by Andrew Grove.

The ability to recognize that the winds have shifted and to take appropriate action before you wreck your boat is crucial to the future of an enterprise.

Andrew Grove

While Grove addresses this to businesses, can I tell you that your career is your business? And you the CEO?

Covid-19 is teaching everyone a serious lesson. But few are taking notes.

Why?

That’s humans for you. We don’t listen hard. We don’t read between lines. So history keeps repeating itself.

According to a post on BBC.com, nearly 200 million people could end up out of work during this covid-19 pandemic.

And if you’ve not lost yours, how can you stay guarded so you can control your career journey?

That’s what Grove has given us – not answers but questions to trigger our minds.

1). What do you think the nature of your industry is going to be in two or three years?

Go online and type the future of work… (type your field). Open the first five pages and read for yourself.

2). Is this an industry you want to be part of?

This is a self check and it’s good we’re at home. Think about your future and career. Do you still want to be part of this field? Are you sure? You want to switch?

3). Is your employer in a good position to succeed in this industry?

“How can you motivate yourself,” he asked, “to continue to follow a leader when he appears to be going around in circles?”

I’ve thought about this and sure I know my decision relation to this. Don’t be sentimental here. Think. It’s your career remember and your life.

4). What skills do you need to progress in your career in this new landscape?

“On the other hand, when there’s a fundamental change in the industry and you don’t change your skills,” Grove said, “you will lose at both winning companies and losing companies. That is a situation that can be classified as career inflection point.”

Very key.

The first question will give you a clue to this. As you check the future of work in that field, you’ll see the skills needed.

5). Do you have a role model of the person who has the career today that you want to achieve?

Also important.

No sentiments here again. I repeat, no sentiments. Who can you follow in your supposed career? Who can show you the way in your chosen field of pursuit?

My final take is one of his quotes from the book:

The sad news is that, nobody owes you a career. Your career is literally your business. You own it as a sole proprietor. You have one employee: yourself. You are in competition with millions of similar businesses: millions of other employees all over the world. You need to accept ownership of your career, your skills and the timing of your moves. It is your responsibility to protect this personal business of yours from harm and to position it to benefit from the changes in the environment. Nobody else can do that for you.

Andrew Grove

Can you turn it to goodnews?

Africa and the Future of Work | Covid-19: Why your Career Plan Needs to Change.

From Nigeria, on 31 March, 2020, I sat in the conference room with my colleagues as our boss spoke to us about the next move relation to covid-19. As he spoke, I saw sincerity and wisdom from his words.

To me, I valued that last conversation more than a salary. He kept mentioning post-corona several times. Amongst the many things I got from him, one of the most pressing is the need to recreate my career plan.

Trained as an architect, combined with teens coaching, I’m thinking about my career plan again. Although I know what I want, the disruption from the pandemic is going to change the route to get it. Yes, it will.

Why?

I’ve been at home from April 1, 2020… No office work for the next one month… The office is going to be locked… We can’t effectively service our clients online due to certain reasons.

Do I place my career plan on my organization or carry that responsibility to re-strategize for post-corona – like my boss called it?

WHAT CAN WE DO THEN?

One of the major steps we need to take to adjust in our career plan is to understand the tech in our career and begin to embrace it fully.

Technology is not going to be an option anymore. It has replaced our environment. That’s where we live. That’s why things like AI and IoT is being integrated as a matter of necessity. If you’re not integrating tech into your career, you’ll miss a lot.

I got several freelancing jobs to work on last month, and I’m almost like a late comer in that field. However, I’m taking my time to make sure my online presence is stronger daily. And taking more assignments online too…

Note: These tasks I’m taking to earn is also in line with my career goal. There are jobs I won’t take. I will not. Despite the change, I’ll stick to my career goal but my career plan is changing.

Another step is to have multiple career paths in view. No better post explains this more than Why you should craft multiple plans for your future career.

Remember to stay safe and keep praying too. Covid-19 is a teacher for those who want to learn.

Coronavirus: How to use autosuggestion to stay safe and healthy.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Pierre Teilhard De Chardin

Murphy, author of The Power of the Subconscious Mind, told a story of one his relatives who died as a result of negative autosuggestion.

The man went to visit a crystal gazer in India who told him that by the next new moon, he was going to die as something will happen to his heart.

So he came back and started telling everyone that he was going to die at the said time. He even prepared his will as a sign that he was going.

Guess what?

That negative autosuggestion, believed, came to pass. He died that same day.

What killed him?

An autopsy was carried out and it was discovered that his heart was in good condition. However, it’s clear that his thoughts were distorted and his body had to let go… That’s the power of autosuggestion.

You can see the result of autosuggestion around you – from kids to adults with faulty perception of themselves. They have been told they will amount to nothing from childhood and so they believed it. After a while, it shows up.

It was auto suggested to them and their minds, just like yours, cannot fathom what’s true or false. What you give to the mind, it takes.

If you believe coronavirus will kill you, my dear you are setting yourself up for death. Somehow, I feel the fear of the covid-19 might cause more harm than the virus itself.

Does it mean we should pay no attention to corovirus?

Off course not.

Take all the coronavirus safety measures but more importantly guard your mind. That’s where your life is controlled from.

The NEWS media is full of terror and statistics of those affected and dead due to coronavirus.

As you stay at home, working remotely, don’t allow the negatives of covid-19 overshadow your thoughts.

Remember the words we started with. And I’ll close with this to reemphasize the reality that we are first spiritual beings:

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all creatures that move along the ground.

Genesis 1:26 (NIV)
