Am I joking?

I’ve been off again for a while.

So why do I share this?

I need you to see my journey. I won’t give up. I won’t. It’s 23:30PM WAT and I’m scribbling with my phone to plan for the week but I won’t give up.

I googled the nicheployee blog and this is what I saw:

And so, I won’t stop.

I like this book and that’s how I’ll end it here: The Obstacle is the way by Ryan Holiday.

Surviving Post-Covid-19: The gold in being FIRED IV.

I’ll yet share another story.

Much talk doesn’t deliver the effect in cases like this.

So, what’s the next gold in being FIRED?

How did Baked by Melissa started?

This is a story by Melissa herself from Ber website, bakedbymelissa.com

My goal in life has always been to find something that I was passionate about and would leave me exhausted from hard work at the end of the day. On family vacations, my brother and I would lie on the beach and think up new business ideas; then we’d come home and actually try to implement them.

I didn’t realize at the time, but all that dreaming would come in handy. In 2008 I was working as an assistant media planner. I certainly wasn’t passionate about my job, and I guess it was clear to the people at the company because – I was fired. On that day, I called my brother, and he told me, “Don’t worry, it’s the best thing that could ever happen to you.”
He was right.
“Go home and bake your cupcakes; we’ll start a business out of it” is what he told me. I ran to the supermarket, looking for flavor inspiration. That’s when I thought up s’mores, cookie dough, and peanut butter cup cupcakes — three of my favorite things in the world. These went along with the flavor I famously had been making for all my family and friends — tie-dye.
Following a serendipitous series of events, I got a tasting with a well-known NYC caterer. We needed a name and a logo, and my brother insisted that it have a personal touch.

We settled on Baked by Melissa. My friend Matt was twiddling around on his computer; within minutes he turned his monitor around and asked, “What do you think of this?” It was the exact same logo that we have today.
I went to that meeting with the NYC caterer with boxes that I got from the deli across the street from my apartment, our new logo printed on a piece of paper that we glued on top of the box. Inside were my cupcakes, which I decided to make mini without paper, so the aesthetic was just like they are to this day – simply designed with a little touch of the stuffing on top.

The caterer loved them and from there, everything was a whirlwind. We created a website, baked cupcakes for events and holiday markets in the city, started selling at a pop up, and then launched our first retail location – a pickup window in Soho.

Now, take a look at that story.

Yes she had the advantage of a brother. That was a strength. But do you know there are those with same situation and they’ll yet do nothing?

Getting fired can help you discover and use your hidden potentials.

Again, take this moment and begin to count your blessing instead of your losses.

As an employee who is out of job, it is not the end of life. Post covid-19 should be new life for you.

Will it be easy?

I didn’t say so.

But I know it’s too possible.

Surviving Post-Covid-19: The gold in being FIRED III.

Take a look at this story from businessinsider.com:

“It was a pretty rough year for me. My main business that I depended on for income was beginning to see signs of collapse early in the year, and it progressively got worse as the year went on.

Just when our savings buffer was completely gone, I had been introduced to an opportunity that looked like it would change everything.

I was hired to take over a large portion of the Operations and Affiliate Marketing strategies for a large, up and coming startup in the Internet E-Commerce space. The project was incredibly exciting, as it allowed me to work within my strengths. I really couldn’t have asked for a better timed opportunity and fit.

I had worked on that project for 6 months when I received a phone call that the company was out of money, and that they wouldn’t be able to pay me to keep going. It was like a bomb went off. I was laid off, and out of work… just like that.

I was not prepared. I didn’t have enough time to prepare. My savings were gone from last year’s disaster. For 6 months I worked on a bare bones salary just to pay the bills and get the company to launch. What was I going to do? My wife. My kids. They depend on me, and I’ve got nothing left.

Since that phone call, I’ve been working my ass off to get something going. I launched an Internet Marketing firm, Asheville Web Design Company, and relaunched the blog that I put a lot of heart and energy into prior to getting involved in the e-commerce project, TRIBE.LY.

Not jumping into action was not a choice. I had to move – FAST.

I jumped on elance.com and started bidding on Search Engine Optimization and Small Business Internet Marketing projects. It took a lot of proposals, but I eventually got that first sale. It happened 4 days into being laid off, in fact. And it happened to be a pretty good one that will result in monthly residual income SEO work that I will be doing…

I am now focused on building and consulting several small businesses… I truly believe the chaos of the job loss will result in a beautiful rising up, and use of my gifts and strengths in the form of coming alive in what I was meant to do to serve others.”

Being fired will make you have sense.

This is not sounding rude.

No!

If you don’t see it for what it is, you’ll miss the moment.

From Jason’s story, there were things he started realizing all by himself.

Now, it’s not the fault of the employer that the employee is not thinking. No. It’s not his fault.

When a job goes, a cap on our sense opens.

If you’re in his shoe, just take time and reflect and you’ll also see the same thing happening to you.

Surviving Post-Covid-19: The gold in being FIRED II.

I was going through this book, Think Like a Billionaire. Become a Billionaire when the first reason dawned on me.

I’m a person of faith and so it’s real, so deep for me.

Getting fired from a job will make you trust God more.

Scot gave a story of how his dad got fired and it was so difficult for him to cope.

In the early eighties, my father was laid off from his job. Seven months went by with no word from his employer. He had us to take care of, the mortgage to pay and all the other responsibilities of life.

It would have been very simple for God to do a miracle for my dad and just drop money on the porch each morning like the manna for the Israelites. My brother Jason and I could have run outside all excited, grabbing money while our neighbors fought us for it. It would have been amazing.

But that would not have helped my dad grow so that he could do bigger miracles on his life. God used the opportunity to get him to participate in the miracle. And my dad changed and grew. He leaned on the Word and read the bible even when things did not make sense. God said, “Don’t worry about it.” Dad thought he wanted to worry about it but God reminded him that He would supply everything he needed.

My dad began to put his hands in things so that God could prosper him. He bought and sold cars. He took jobs wallpapering and doing windows for people. And even though he worked few hours that year, he made almost $20,000 more than the prior year. God not only provided for him, He prospered him. My dad learned that God would bless the works of his hands.

So, the job loss was a privilege in disguise.

For me, I can relate well with this.

I lost my job in 2015, around September. It was tough. My boss was not happy but I had to go.

That same month, I got home tutoring job which gave me more money than my job. I survived that season until July of 2016 when I got my current job.

If you’re in a similar case of job loss, you might as well learn to trust God afresh. Leave your understanding behind. You’ll see how He’ll pull you through.

For others, you might say you begin to trust your guts. You begin to take steps that your mind cannot fathom.

In all, losing a job can birth a wonderful experience if you choose to see it differently.

Surviving Post-Covid-19: The gold in being FIRED I.

Don’t look at me like that now. I feel deeply for those who lost their jobs already because of covid-19.

Statistics shows that more will yet be laid off. It’s tough. Sometimes I feel like crying.

Will crying solve it?

No way.

That’s why I’ve been looking for the gold in being fired. And I know there is gold if not gold bars.

The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.

Moliere

See Roger Crawford’s words:

Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.

Then, how can one get the gold out of this situation? Being fired?

You must see the situation differently. And that alone will start the journey.

I’ll share more tomorrow but to give you a stepping stone to stand on, take a look at these words:

Every problem is a gift. Without them we wouldn’t grow.

Tony Robbins

Problems are nothing but wake-up calls for creativity.

Gerhard Gschwandtner

There is no problem outside of you that is superior to the power within you.

Bob Proctor

Just Do It!

I just wanted to push you again to take a step.

If you feel you need to think about it, go ahead.

But don’t stay there too long.

Just take a step.

Did you read yesterday’s review? If no, I think you need to.

A step at a time.

I started a book because of this period and I’m up going through the book now. I actually saw an app that could help me write the book faster.

The app transcribes my voice into text immediately.

Maybe, you might want to try it.

This is it…

I’ll like to know your progress too.

Remember, stay safe.

Friday Book Review with Chuks | Overcoming Crisis by Myles Munroe.

Seeds of faith are always within us; sometimes it takes a crisis to nourish and grow their growth.

Myles Munroe

I’ve been so busy that I’ve not posted on my blog for days. I really want to post and then backdate it, but I’ve told myself that I will not.

Why?

So that you can see my process too. It’s tough. It’s not easy.

However, progress is the name not perfection. This is not an excuse for my slacking, but I hope you learn too.

Here are ten things you can do in crisis that I got from the book: Overcoming Crisis by Myles Munroe.

Enjoy.

What you see as crisis, God sees as opportunity an opportunity for growth.

Myles Munroe

1. Initiate Solution

Don’t wait for things to change. Become proactive and change things, even in this covid-19 crisis.

2. Place Demand on your Potential

My personal experience: I just did my first Instagram live training few hours ago. and guess what? In used Instagram live for the first time, last night.

See the picture:

3. Test the creativity of your team

As an employee, this can mean your colleagues or master mind group. Try something with them. Run a test on an idea.

4. Believe in your ability to solve problems

For me, this should come first. If you don’t believe you can solve problems, you’ll do nothing. Covid-19 has paralysed so many in their minds. But don’t allow it.

5. Look at what you have not what you don’t have

I hope someone hears this!

What do you have? Your smartphone? A house? A laptop? WiFi? Data?

6. Study what you have

When you do this, you’ll see the value in what you have. We undermine what we have because we’ve not studied it.

7. Look for the potential of your resources

This will happen as you do number 6. Trust me, it will.

8. See beyond the norm

Don’t limit yourself.

Think about doing what you’ve not done before just like what I did with Instagram live. Use the Nike style: Just Do It!

9. Understand the true nature of your resources

From the book, Myles said that some of our resources are physical while the others are intangible. Get to know the difference and utilise them.

10. Act on faith

Now don’t sit their and just read and open another tab. Take a decision now and do something. Start that book.

This is the most important part.

Act.

And now is the right time to.

Don’t waste covid-19. Please don’t.

And remember to stay safe.
