SmartPhone Blogging 101

I’ve dreamt of this. It’s surely not the perfect one. But it explains my journey so far.

I’ve used a free blog plan to start earning as a blogger. Lot’s of persons want to start blogging but they’ve not.

It’s not a story book. It’s a doing book. You’ll benefit more by carrying out the activities than by reading through.

In fact, I’d prefer you don’t read but act on all steps than read through and do nothing.

To download it for free, click here SmartPhone Blogging 101.

One more funny thing, the link above is from the website of a friend. So my book is squatting 😀. But who cares?

It’s ready and that’s it. I’ll keep pushing and I hope you do same.

Friday Book Review with Chuks | Start With Why by Simon Sinek

In reading this review, exchange company or organization for your name or “a person”.

And at certain times, just take in the lesson fully.

Every single company and organization on the planet knows WHAT they do. Some companies and people know HOW they do WHAT they do. Very few people or companies can clearly articulate WHY they do WHAT they do.

People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.

Knowing WHY is essential for lasting success and the ability to avoid being lumped in with others.

(This is why building your personal brand as an employee is important to me. You don’t get lumped up. You’re a distinct person already. Why reduce to being common? 😮 Let’s continue…)

Knowing your WHY is not the only way to be successful, but it is the only way to maintain a lasting success and have a greater blend of innovation and flexibility.

(I experience this virtually everyday as an employee. Ideas don’t get shut down. I only get tired. My WHY keeps the inspiration always.)

When a WHY goes fuzzy, it becomes much more difficult to maintain the growth, loyalty, and inspiration that helped drive the original success.

(This happens over time. Thus, the need for seasonal retreats.)

“‘Instead of asking, ‘WHAT should we do to compete?’ you need to ask yourself, ‘WHY did we start doing WHAT we’re doing in the first place, and WHAT can we do to bring our cause to life considering all the technologies and market opportunities available today?‘”

(As an employee, this will be difficult if you’re working in an organization that is not connected to your WHY.)

We are drawn to leaders and organizations that are good at communicating what they believe. Their ability to make us feel like we belong, to make us feel special, safe and not alone is part of what gives them the ability to inspire us.

Great leaders are those who trust their gut. They are those who understand the art before the science. They win hearts before minds. They are the ones who start with WHY.

If a company does not have a clear sense of WHY then it is impossible for the outside world to perceive anything more than WHAT the company does.

(Hmmm… My goodness!)

When the WHY is absent, imbalance is produced and manipulations thrive. And when manipulations thrive, uncertainty increases for buyers, instability increases for sellers and stress increases for all.

(Again, take a look at persons who know their WHY… Their moves and attitude is different. No manipulation.)

Only when the WHY is clear and when people believe what you believe can a true loyal relationship develop.

(Yeah! When I converse with highschool students, there’s a connect I get instantly. Why? They feel my WHY even before we converse.)

The goal of business should not be to do business with anyone who simply wants what you have. It should be to focus on the people who believe what you believe.

(Seth Godin calls it Tribe.)

When we are selective about doing business only with those who believe in our WHY, trust emerges.

(Why? You truly care for the person. Sometimes you can’t help it. One day, one of my students said this to me: “Mr. Chialuka, why are you so obsessed about teenagers?”… That alone blew me up. She’s experienced something different.)

Trust begins to emerge when we have a sense that another person or organization is driven by things other than their own self-gain.”

(Just like the other statement.)

If the people inside a company are told to come to work and just do their job, that’s all they will do. If they are constantly reminded WHY the company was founded and told to always look for ways to bring that cause to life while performing their job, however, then they will do more than their job.

(A deep lesson for company owners and you too if you want to own businesses.)

When people come to work with a higher sense of purpose, they find it easier to weather hard times or even to find opportunity in those hard times.

(On my post, three days ago, I said something like that. Those who will thrive in this times are those with a compelling vision.)

Clarity of purpose, cause or belief is important, but it is equally important that people hear you.

(Yes! I’ve been waiting for this. If you have a WHY, people need to know about it. Allow it to show. There is the natural energy that releases it to people that come around you but beyond that, we need to add to that aura and that can include our social media presence. Who knows about your WHY? You see this blog, I’m using it to express my WHY.)

For a WHY to have the power to move people it must not only be clear, it must be amplified to reach enough people to tip the scale.

(Still like the last. That is why building a personal brand is important.)

Why personal branding is more important than ever for the C-suite.

A clear sense of WHY sets expectations. When we don’t know an organization’s WHY, we don’t know what to expect, so we expect the minimum—price, quality, service, features—the commodity stuff. But when we do have a sense for the WHY, we expect more.

(This is vital for entrepreneurs. Don’t look back! Remember, today’s employees are hybrids. I call them entreployees. They possess the entrepreneur’s nature.)

A symbol cannot have any deep meaning until we know WHY it exists in terms bigger than simply to identify the company.

For a logo to become a symbol, people must be inspired to use that logo to say something about who they are.

IMG_20200425_101140_968

If WHAT you do doesn’t prove what you believe, then no one will know what your WHY is and you’ll be forced to compete on price, service, quality, features and benefits; the stuff of commodities.

(Crystal truth. Clearly stated. The reason you are competing is because you don’t know your WHY.)

It is not just WHAT or HOW you do things that matters; what matters more is that WHAT and HOW you do things is consistent with your WHY.

(Another resonance!)

“‘If a company tries too many times to “seize market opportunities” inconsistent with their WHY over time, their WHY will go fuzzy and their ability to inspire and command loyalty will deteriorate.'”

(What do people around you know you with today? Is it the same three years ago? Will it be the same five years from now?)

Achievement comes when you pursue and attain WHAT you want. Success comes when you are clear in pursuit of WHY you want it.

(This is game over!)

For passion to survive, it needs structure. A WHY without the HOWs, passion without structure, has a very high probability of failure.

(So, your job should be one of the structures… You get it?)

perception-3110810_1280

Finding WHY is a process of discovery, not invention.

(Yeah. I say it this way, “Your WHY is never clear. It only gets clearer”.)

There is a difference between running with all your heart with your eyes closed and running with all your heart with your eyes wide open.

(I don’t know what to say here 😀. Help me in the comment area…)

When you compete against everyone else, no one wants to help you. But when you compete against yourself, everyone wants to help you.

(Game over 2.0!… Lol…)

What if we showed up to work every day simply to be better than ourselves? What if the goal was to do better work this week than we did the week before? To make this month better than last month? For no other reason than because we want to leave the organization in a better state than we found it?

(Read it again: “What if I showed up…?”)

Finally, do you have a WHY for the job you do?

I can hear someone say, “Should I leave my job because I don’t have a WHY?”

Well, we’ll look at that tomorrow.

What should I do when my job does not connect with my WHY?

Difference Between Vision and Ambition.

If we follow English language semantics we’ll not get the juice out of this.

Ask a child about his dream. And most will tell you what they want to get, where they want to go to and money they want to acquire and all these so called personal acquisitions.

Are they wrong?

I go for them. You go for them too.

But have you seen that no man gets bigger by fighting for himself. No man.

Find a course you want to dedicate your life to. Get a job in that sphere. Then keep moving.

Will it be smooth? No. Will it be worth it? Sure, if you persist and learn on the way.

Most employees don’t start with why. We don’t start with a vision. We start with our tummy. Our hunger. Our needs and end there.

The problem is not where we start but where do we go from there.

Finally, I like the words of an African Bishop on this:

Ambition is not an absolutely wrong word. Ambition is a strong and necessary companion of vision.

It takes ambition to drive vision. Why? Because ambition is a strong desire to achieve results or attain a height.

Without ambition vision will go to sleep. It is the fire place of vision. It takes ambition to fire vision to action.

If you like, call it zeal. Do not discard ambition. Life is dormant without it. It is described as a cherished desire.

It is backup to vision. Genuine ambition never competes with vision. It doesn’t run parallel to vision.

Bishop David Abioye:

Thus, use ambition to pursue the vision. I’ll recommend Simon Sinek’s Start With Why.

I think I can do a summary on his two books tomorrow during my Friday book review.

Surviving Post-Corona: Should I quit my job or not?

A tough question indeed.

I am a football fan. I’ve been locked outside the house for going to see matches 😀. What a life!

Can you remember the match between AC Milan and Liverpool? In 2005? UEFA Champions League Final match?

What a terrible match.

Wikipedia puts it this way:

Milan were regarded as favourites before the match and took the lead within the first minute through captain Paolo Maldini. Milan striker Hernán Crespo added two more goals before half-time to make it 3–0. In the second half Liverpool launched a comeback and scored three goals in a dramatic six-minute spell to level the scores at 3–3, with goals from Steven Gerrard, Vladimír Šmicer and Xabi Alonso.

The scores remained the same during extra time, and a penalty shoot-out was required to decide the champions. The score was 3–2 to Liverpool when Andriy Shevchenko’s penalty was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek. Thus Liverpool won their fifth European Cup, were awarded the trophy permanently, and claimed a multiple-winner badge.

Liverpool’s comeback gave rise to the final being known as the Miracle of Istanbul, and is regarded as one of the greatest finals in the history of the tournament.”

That night was hot for me. I learnt something about life.

To quit is a choice.

Now, you’re not playing against AC Milan. In fact, football has been shut down for a while now.

You’re playing against the economy and your job. You’re an employee and you can see work going in no direction. Covid-19 has startled everyone.

Are you thinking of quitting? Do you think it’s time? Is there something you always wanted to do and you’ve not been able to?

Can I ask you this even before you decide to quit or not: what is your vision?

I feel this is even the most important question to ask.

Where are you going to?

The persons who will be scared the most in this period are those who don’t have a vision for their lives. (Remember, a vision is different from ambition.)

I’ll write about the difference between vision and ambition tomorrow.

As an employee, don’t just quit your job. And don’t just stay. Have a why for quitting or staying.

Surviving Post-Covid-19: Start learning about your customer

Have you heard it that the customer pays the bills, not your company or your boss?

If you don’t understand my view of this you’ll think I’m suggesting you be disloyal to your organization. But that’s far from the truth.

The reason I write is to help employees, who love their field or industry to create a personal brand in that industry.

If you love it, then you’ll give your best to it. Right? Including your organization.

Let’s see Anita’s life.

She works with a bank. She’s a cashier. She’s been doing this for about five years. After a while, she had a particular problem that her customers kept on complaining about. Being a loyal staff, she explained to her superior after each encounter with another customer.

However, it seemed as though no one was listening. Suddenly, she surfs the internet and sees that there is a service that can be built to help solve this problem. (This happened after she asked to find a solution to this problem.)

Anita gets home that night. Carries her research and decides to quit her job in four months. In those four months, 50% of her salary was dedicated to registering a business and creating a website to run the business.

What do you think about this?

Well, not all employers will like this. But I tell you the truth, a wise one will allow Anita do her thing and even consult her to teach her colleagues the same thing.

Or in another situation… The covid-19 situation. Some persons have been sacked. Now that’s not my pain. My pain is that most employees don’t know their customer. So as they leave the company, they go looking for jobs again.

What happened to the five years you spent there?

What is wrong with your reasoning?

You get the gist?

We have fully entered the customer economy. Help your organization serve the customers, also open your eyes and brain to know them.

8 Ways Employees Can Earn in this Covid-19 Lockdown.

April 2020, is the first month I’ll stay without receiving salary earning from my boss. It’s terrible, but I’ve learnt the lesson the hard way.

I’m glad I’m making changes too. And you can. You can earn even in the cave-19 lockdown.

If you’re crying in this lockdown it is not your employer’s fault. It is your fault to a larger extent though.

While I know it’s not easy to survive, I believe that covered-19 has shown us how our world is and has changed completely.

For me, I was able to do my first online training last week. And guess what? That cash has carried me for a while. Although, I have a commitment to make my students get the real deal too.

For you as an employee, what are you waiting for?

NB: This is no time to say you’re not the online person. You don’t like online and all those self-denials we use to run away from personal responsibility.

Help ya sef with any of these:

  • Content Creation

You can earn by typing content jobs on Google. You will see a lot. If you’re fortunate, a company can hire you to write on their blog in this season. But you’ll have to know something about that niche.

So, I advice you look for writing jobs in the niche you have knowledge.

  • Editing jobs

You can also earn by editing works. Not necessarily creating from scratch. How do I get this?

Go online and type editing jobs and your journey begins.

  • Social Media Marketing

This is one reason you need a good online presence. They’ll need testimonial most times and I’d you can’t give any… Buy just try. You never can tell.

Do this: search for social media marketing jobs on google.

  • Coding

Is this too high?

Well, for some persons.

I started learning coding two or three weeks ago. You might not like this. But coding is the future of work. If you don’t know that by now then you’re late.

And the earnings in coding can be higher. Yes. If you feel you can’t do this then start a class on it.

  • Translating

Can you speak a different language like French or Spanish or Portuguese? There are jobs waiting for you. You can even use sites that translate to translate for you.

How again? (I can hear your heart asking that)… Google it. And you’ll see results.

  • Graphic Design

From Adobe apps – both on PCs and mobile, you can go for a graphic design job you an earn some dollars.

Or maybe you’ll need to understand these apps first and then apply.

Can you see how we limit ourselves sometimes?

I use Adobe Spark Post for my designs and it’s a mobile app. You too can.

  • Website building

Just like coding, there’s good earning in website building. It is a part of coding.

In about one week, several persons have asked me about building a website. That means it is a good source of earning.

  • User Testing

There are apps that several companies make and they want certain persons to test run them before they are launched. You can do that and get some earnings.

  • Teach online

This will turn you around. In fact, I recommend you do this. It will help you after the covid-19 lockdown.

Lots of organizations are using this and will continue. Perhaps, you’ll teach your colleagues in the office when you resume.

Don’t just sit and watch, especially, if your employer is not having any plans for you.

Do something with your life and your time. More updates coming in for you.

Five Stages of Pursuing Passion

I find it hard using SEO to make all my writings. Humans are not machines. We have emotions. So sometimes I prefer to write from my heart.

If Google wants to list it, fine. If not, I just know this will help someone.

When you begin to pursue your passion, you’ll go through crazy processes that will make you feel like a fool.

Yes, like a fool.

I’ve been there and that’s why I want to share the five stages I’ve started but still going through all again and again.

AWARENESS

This is when it dawns on you that this is what you love to do… that this is what you are called to do. It’s so lovely but with mixed feelings too. Sometimes you cry.

If you’re a person of faith like me, you’d have cried during your prayer time. I have and still do.

That awareness is the aha moment. Incomparable.

But after this, comes the stage of… 😀

MADNESS

Didn’t find any better word to use. I’m sorry. Do you know how a pregnant woman feels sometimes?

At madness, you’re restless. Nothing makes sense.

I can remember several times, I sleep so early and wake up very early. My mind saturated by this thing. When will I have time to spend with teenagers?

When? 😰

CALMNESS (POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE)

Calmness occurs either ways – positive or negative.

Negative occurs when you get tired and you just feel like this is not possible again. You give up. You just feel stupid and as though it’s not worthwhile.

No one understands what you’re saying. No one supports you.

Maybe, hunger on you 😀! No job and you’re pursuing passion? It’s terrible.

The positive happens when you calm down. Meditate on the journey. Begin to see what it will cost you if you keep on this journey.

The positive side is for the patient guy.

ASSIGNMENT OR PRUDENCE

Work begins here.

And the first is…

  • Personal Development

Buy books. Read. Listen to tapes. Download and watch videos. Seminars. Webinars. Follow the pros on twitter. Listen to them.

  • Service

You must serve the persons you are sent to and the person who is already doing what you want to do. I had to do this. It was fun and tough.

Let me share this story:

I was living with my aunt and then her son, my cousin, told me one day that his school was in need of a tutor – ICT tutor. I was excited.

Why?

I’d finally get to be with teens always.

So I went to the school. I met with the principal. He looked at me and was like, “I can’t pay you. We don’t have the money”.

I still went ahead to teach.

I can’t describe to you what that moment was like for me. Almost every night, I cried. I couldn’t wait to resume school. I couldn’t wait to see these kids.

The second is that I had to attend the graduation ceremony of a school in order to meet with my current boss. And I’ve been with him for about four years now learning how to coach teens.

The experience?

Immeasurable!

  • Personal Trial and Error

You begin to take personal projects too that will expand your capacity. You can write books. Organize events. Do something beyond you.

Take risk.

No going back.

Just forward and upward.

GREATNESS

It is given. You don’t take it.

Now there is greatness on the inside and that on the outside. I’m talking about the one on the outside.

It’s given, not taken.

Your work will speak for you. Your service will speak for you.

At this point, people begin to know you as a master in that sphere of life.

SIGNIFICANCE

After greatness, if you don’t stop, you enter the realm of significance.

Here, you’re not just a leader in your industry, other industries recognize your wisdom and capacity.

And most importantly, you begin to give back. That is one major sign of this stage.

It is for givers, not receivers.

A lot has happened so you want to share your journey with others.

At what level are you at in your pursuit of your passion?

If you don’t relent, you’ll receive the crown. Trust me, you will. For the stages, remember, it’s cyclic. It goes round and comes round.

Stay true to your passion. No matter what.
